After completing comprehensive redevelopment and repositioning at the iconic 620 North LaSalle building in River North, an affiliate of Next Realty, LLC welcomed coworking firm, Spaces, into the newly renovated office building. Spaces, a subsidiary of IWG, moved into the eight story, 80,000-square-foot building and began operations in September.
Modernizing an Icon
Next Realty completed the comprehensive gut renovation of the property earlier this year. Highlights of the program included the installation of all new windows, two new high-speed elevators and cabs, new electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems and a large roof top deck with 360-degree views of the city.
Upon completion of the renovation, the base building was turned over to Spaces for the buildout of its flagship Chicago property. Spaces has created room for more than 500 business professionals from companies of all sizes to enjoy desks for private work, as well as collaborative spaces and conference rooms.
Storied History
620 North LaSalle has a rich history in Chicago. For decades, the building housed Morrie Mages Sports. In 1994, its successor MC Sports leased the space to Sportmart which, at that time, was controlled by the Hochberg family. Ultimately, the Hochberg family sold Sportmart to The Sports Authority. An affiliate of Next Realty acquired the building in 2002. The building remained a sporting goods store until 2016 when The Sports Authority liquidated its operations and closed its stores.
“Andy Hochberg and I purchased this property for an affiliate of Next Realty in 2002 with the long-term vision of repositioning the property at some point,” said Marc Blum, Next’s President and Chief Operating Officer. We’ve completed a great transformation and are very excited to have Spaces as a long-term tenant of the building.”
